Casting for Recovery - East Tennessee Program

Casting for Recovery (CFR), a national non-profit organization, provides weekend support and educational retreats specifically tailored for women who have or have had breast cancer.

CFR retreats are provided at no cost to the participants.  The retreat curriculum combines instruction in the basics of fly fishing with breast cancer education and support, a unique approach which promotes physical and mental healing.

CFR's 2 1/2 day retreat program instructs women in fly-fishing's gentle casting techniques, which provide therapeutic motion for joint and soft tissue stretching of those areas affected by surgery and/or radiation.  Through classroom session, group discussions and in-service presentations, the focus is on wellness, education, and empowerment in their own survivorship, while providing the participant with a true retreat - a respite from familiar surroundings and everyday routines.

CFR retreats are appropriate for women of all ages and at all stages of treatment and recovery. Dr Susan Love, author of Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book, states:

". . . CFR is one of the best programs for breast cancer survivors that I know."
