Whooo Hooooo!!!!  Casting for Recovery’s 3rd Annual Turning Leaf Tour was a resounding success for both Casting for Recovery and Club Vibes.

We would like to thank everyone for your support by coming to ride our 3rd Annual Turning Leaf Tour, Presented by B&W Y-12 as well as those individuals that supported Casting for Recovery by purchasing raffle tickets.

We would especially like to thank Club Vibes for their participation in our event as riders and as volunteer staff members.  You truly enhanced our event with your spirit and expertise as bicyclists.

This ride could not have happened without the passion and commitment of the organizing committee and volunteers, the fantastic staff of the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center, and the belief in our program by all of our sponsors.

We look forward to seeing everyone again at the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center for next year’s event on October 20, 2013.  Mark your calendars.

Registration costs are:

  • $50 if registered before September 21
  • $55 if registered between September 22 and October 20
  • $60 on the day of the event.

The Turning Leaf Tour is a road cycling event that will assist Casting for Recovery fund their annual educational and support retreat for 14 women who have experienced breast cancer living in Tennessee, especially women living in East Tennessee, provided at no cost to the participant.

All proceeds will go toward the 2013 Casting for Recovery, East Tennessee retreat on April 12-14.

There will be three distinct rides, all starting at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center during the height of the beautiful fall colors.

  1. Bring the entire family and ride the 10-mile Greenway through Townsend.
  2. For the more adventurous riders, you may enjoy a 30-mile road ride through the beautiful Smoky Mountains.
  3. For the more experienced riders, we offer a 50-mile road course through the colorful foothills of the Smoky Mountains.

The route this year is slightly different than last year.  It has been clearly marked, and will be a great ride.

Check-in time for all rides is 11:00 AM on October 21.

The ride routes are planned by Martin Coleman of RaceDay Events.

This year Club VIBES (Visually Impaired/Blind Enhanced Services) will be joining us for the ride.  The Club VIBES participants will be paired up and riding tandem bicycles.

Club VIBES is made up of a group of volunteers who care about visually impaired youth as they make the transition into an independent adult life. Through mentoring, these volunteers teach living skills and provide Club members with educational activities which model, develop, and reinforce social and leadership skills. Social outings and special events also are used as learning opportunities.  This year's Turning Leaf Tour is one of those social outings.

Their mission is to assist blind and visually impaired young people in the Knoxville area to live independent and productive lives by identifying their unique capacities and developing their individual strengths.

For more information about Club VIBES, go to their website:  http://club-vibes.org/
